Kavindra Malik is a Partner with Columbus Consulting. Kavindra has been engaged in strategic, operational and implementation consulting relating to retail and consumer goods area for much of his career. His work includes; analytically advanced reasoning, process, business performance improvement and implementation consulting. In retail he has been involved in strategic opportunity assessment across merchandise and assortment planning, allocation, replenishment, merchandise optimization issues (size and pack, price, forecasting and assortment optimization), inventory management and supply chain design and analysis. He has worked as business advisor, lead consultant and subject matter expert as well as program manager on significant projects in 8 different countries. In addition to domain and management experience, Kavindra brings strong technical background to his engagements. He has a keen understanding of the software development life cycle best practices and methodologies and has personally developed analytically oriented custom software in Java and C#/.Net.

Prior to joining Columbus Consulting, Kavindra had been a senior executive at Island Pacific, a product leader at Spotlight Solutions (a markdown optimization pioneer later acquired by ProfitLogic/Oracle), an industry solutions leader for Retail and CPG at i2 Technologies (acquired by JDA), a Principal in the supply chain and operations planning practice at CSC Consulting. Kavindra began his career as an Assistant Professor at the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University where his research focused on inventory management, supply chain, forecasting and optimization. He has advised doctoral dissertations, published multiple research articles and given invited talks at the top educational institutions in the country.

  • Implemented JDA Allocation across allocation and replenishment functions, including one of the most advanced integrations with option/store level assortment planning for a UK division of a US off-price department store.

  • Conducted strategic opportunity assessment and captured business improvement opportunities in assortment planning, replenishment, allocation and rule-based markdowns for a German Retailer.
  • Defined future-state processes in the areas of Assortment Planning and Replenishment for a South African retailer.
  • Advised senior management on choices relating to store versus zone level pricing and conflicting representations from software vendors (SAS and Oracle) for a US based department store.
  • Implemented i2 BAM/JDA Assort software for Japanese retailer.
  • Conducted markdown optimization, size-and pack-optimization and store level trending projects for a US based department store.
  • Developed an allocation analytics and store trending module for use in allocation system for US based department store.
  • Optimized the use of JDA Allocation, including store-level size profiles, for a US shoe retailer.
  • Designed functional integration between assortment planning and allocation for a US specialty apparel retailer.
  • Designed an allocator module (custom developed by client) to determine intelligent allocation targets for a US specialty apparel retailer.
